Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has challenged Kenyans who opposed Adani Group’s offer to upgrade Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to give views on how to better the airport.
This comes after President William Ruto canceled the deals with the Indian conglomerate after its chair, Gautam Adani, was indicted in USA.
While making his submission in the National Assembly, Junet regretted the sorry state of JKIA saying it gives a very bad impression to visitors.
"The first place visitors interact with is JKIA. At the moment, you don't know if you have landed at the Kisumu bus park or an international airport. Even Wilson Airport is better, at JKIA things are bad," said Junet.
The lawmaker noted that the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) has led to tremendous development in other countries, such as Turkey, which now boasts a new airport thanks to the program.
"We want to be a hub of this region. Look at what is happening in Ethiopia. You can't tell me it is the government that is supposed to fix everything, it can not be a one-way traffic. For those of us who were against Adani, let us give alternative views that can improve our airport," he added.
