Lecturers at Moi University have officially embarked on a strike under the banner of the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) chapter, citing frustrations after three years of stalled negotiations with the institution’s management.
The dons accuse the university administration of failing to honour key agreements and neglecting to establish a binding return-to-work formula, despite lengthy discussions.
UASU officials said the industrial action was their last resort, following what they described as persistent disregard of staff welfare and unresolved grievances.“After three years of negotiations, it is clear the management is not committed to addressing our issues. We have been left with no choice but to down our tools,” one UASU representative said.
The strike is expected to disrupt learning and research activities at Moi University, further piling pressure on the administration to urgently engage the union in meaningful dialogue.
