Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed strong support for Kenya’s candidate, Raila Odinga, in his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship.
Gachagua hailed the former Prime Minister as Kenya’s finest and the best candidate for the role, emphasizing his leadership qualities.
“Africa deserves the best, and there is no doubt that Raila Odinga is the right person for the job,” Gachagua stated on social media.
“His vision and dedication to the African people are clear, and as a continent, we need a leader like Raila to unite both Anglophone and Francophone nations as we move toward the future.” He added
He continued, “Raila’s potential victory in Addis Ababa will reflect his commitment to Pan-Africanism, a cause he has long championed. His success will be a significant and progressive step for Africa and a win for Kenya, our beloved nation.”
The first phase of the AUC elections took place from Wednesday to Thursday, with the second phase set to occur tomorrow and Sunday.
In the initial phase, the AU Executive Council, consisting of foreign ministers from member states, selected commissioners to oversee various portfolios within the AU Commission.

Three candidates are in the race for the AUC Chairmanship: Raila Odinga of Kenya, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti, and Richard Randriamandrato of Madagascar.
