Dr. Wilfred Mutubwa, the Dean of the Mount Kenya University (MKU) School of Law, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, after collapsing in his Nairobi office.
According to family and colleagues, Dr. Mutubwa, who had been attending a virtual court session, complained of pain before collapsing during a brief break.
The cause of his death remains unknown, and his body has been transferred to the mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
Dr. Mutubwa was a respected figure in the legal fraternity, recognized for his contributions to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
He previously served as the Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators – Kenya and was involved in resolving ongoing disputes at Nairobi Hospital.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Faith Odhiambo, described him as a distinguished legal professional whose work in ADR earned him membership in the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.
She praised his dedication to mentorship and the development of Kenya’s justice system, noting his impactful tenure at MKU.
The MKU community and legal fraternity have expressed their sorrow over the loss, highlighting Dr. Mutubwa’s exceptional leadership and commitment to his profession.
