Meta is stepping up its efforts to protect teens online with a new School Partnership Program for Instagram. This initiative is designed to help educators report safety concerns, including bullying, and provide students with essential digital literacy resources.
The program was born out of conversations with parents who voiced concerns about their children’s safety on social media. In response, Meta developed tools such as the School Partnership Program and Teen Accounts, which aim to create a safer online environment for young users.
“For teachers and educators who are grappling with how to help teens navigate social media, we hope this program provides an additional way to address bullying and online safety issues,” Meta stated.
Meta’s curriculum for digital safety has already been tested through a partnership with the International Society for Technology in Education. Early results show promising outcomes in addressing online risks and promoting healthier digital habits among students.
These resources will be made available for free to schools, parents, and organizations, ensuring that young users have the tools they need to navigate the online world responsibly.
Alongside the School Partnership Program, Meta has also introduced Instagram Teen Accounts—an experience tailored to younger users with built-in safety features activated by default. These accounts are designed to offer age-appropriate interactions while giving parents peace of mind.
Understanding that social media can be a distraction during school hours, Meta is also providing parents with easy ways to restrict Instagram usage when needed. These measures include limiting screen time and blocking access during school hours to encourage better focus in the classroom.
The new protections aim to reduce unwanted interactions, inappropriate content, and online harassment. By collaborating with educators and parents, Meta hopes to create a safer digital space where teens can engage positively without fear of bullying or exposure to harmful content.
With these initiatives, Meta continues to refine its approach to online safety, ensuring that teens can explore social media in a secure and supportive environment.
