Gospel musician Mercy Masika has urged singles and married couples to look beyond money and material possessions when choosing a partner, emphasizing that financial status should never be the primary measure of a relationship.
Speaking on her Instagram page, Masika encouraged people to focus on purpose, faith and challenges that come with marriage rather than comparing their lives to those of high-profile weddings or wealthy families.
Her remarks come at a time when the growing tendency to equate love with wealth is becoming a problem, reminding the public that financial stability is important and it should not overshadow the qualities that truly sustain marriage: trust, respect, compassion and shared vision.
“Money should not be the primary measure of a relationship,” she said, emphasizing and urging people to prioritize character and emotional connection.
Masika warned couples against comparing their marriage with those of others, stating every individual has their own challenges and financial struggles are only one form of difficulty; couples should remain patient and trust each other as their lives take different paths.
