Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i was noticeably absent from the highly anticipated launch of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday.
Instead, Matiang’i spent the day in a separate meeting with Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba and former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu — a move that has fueled political speculation about shifting alliances and deepening rifts within the Mount Kenya political landscape.
Wamuchomba, once regarded as one of Gachagua’s close political allies, has sparked further intrigue after she released a series of photos from her meeting with Matiang’i and Ngilu shortly after Gachagua unveiled his new party.
Gathoni posted,” Consultations on going ……Wantam is inevitable,”
Reliable sources suggest that Gachagua and Wamuchomba have recently fallen out, although neither has publicly addressed the matter.
During the DCP launch in Nairobi, Gachagua unveiled the party’s interim leadership team, which includes political heavyweights such as Maina Kamanda, Cleophas Malala, and Cate Waruguru. He also announced that the party would be officially launched to the public on June 4, 2025.
Observers now see Wamuchomba’s absence — and her visible alignment with Matiang’i and Ngilu — as a potential sign of a realignment of political forces ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political analysts say the unfolding developments point to a deepening split within the Gachagua-led movement, even before the party gains traction on the ground.
