Mathew Nyamlori, famed for his resilience and determination while pursuing education, is dead.

Nyamlori breathed his last on the morning of Monday, January 20, after a brave battle with gastric cancer.

The 38-year-old had, for a long time, been hospitalised at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu and after his health deteriorated, he was last week transferred to a facility in Nairobi, where he died.

He first went viral after it emerged that he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination an extraordinary nine times. This was after spending 22 years in different primary schools.

In KCPE 2011, Nyamlori scored 403 from Oriri Primary and joined Nairobi School. He was sponsored by Equity Bank’s Wings to Fly scholarship program.

In 2015, he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and scored a B+ of 71 points.

Nyamlori’s education journey of resilience culminated in a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy and Administration from Kenyatta University on Friday, July 24, 2021.
