Makini Schools has unveiled a state-of-the-art multi-purpose sports complex and inaugurated the Makini Sports Festival, marking a major milestone in the institution’s mission to foster holistic development through education.
The KSh100 million investment underscores Makini’s long-standing commitment to nurturing talent beyond academics and reinforces its rising profile in sports and co-curricular excellence.
The newly launched facility features a professional-grade astroturf pitch suitable for football and hockey, dedicated courts for basketball and netball, and modern changing rooms.
Designed to host both internal and inter-school competitions, the complex represents the first phase of a broader sports infrastructure upgrade across all Makini campuses under the ADvTECH Group.
Speaking at the launch event, Makini Schools Managing Director Horace Mpanza emphasized the role of sports in developing well-rounded learners.
“We believe that excellence is not confined to the classroom. Sport plays a vital role in nurturing values such as resilience, teamwork, and leadership,” said Mpanza.
“This new facility reflects our long-term vision to create aspirational environments where our learners can thrive physically, intellectually, and socially.”
To mark the opening, Makini Schools also launched the Makini Sports Festival—an inclusive inter-school competition designed to become an annual tradition.
The festival provides a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills, build friendships, and engage in healthy competition.
The inaugural edition features events in athletics, football, basketball, and netball, along with team-building activities.
Students from Makini and invited partner schools are participating, reflecting the school’s commitment to inclusivity and collaborative learning.
Already nationally recognized for its success in chess and swimming, Makini aims to position itself as a growing hub for inter-school sporting excellence.
Future editions of the festival will see expanded participation, more sporting disciplines, and increased community involvement.
The school also plans to engage national sports bodies and strategic sponsors to scale the event, with the goal of establishing it as a prominent fixture in Kenya’s school sports calendar.
As part of the launch celebrations, a commemorative sculpture was unveiled in honour of Makini’s founders, Dr. Pius Okelo and Dr. Mary Okelo.
The tribute stands as a powerful reminder of the school’s deep-rooted values and its enduring commitment to the legacy of integrity, innovation, and learner-centered growth established by the visionary founders.
