On Friday evening, members of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Thika Chapter held a somber candlelight vigil at the parking bay of the Thika Law Courts in memory of the slain advocate Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot dead in Nairobi earlier this week.
The emotional occasion, chaired by branch chairperson Wanjiru Mwangi, witnessed the lawyers lighting candles and standing moments of silence as they remembered their departed colleague.
Mwangi condemned the murder in the strongest terms and called on the DCI to speed up their investigations and catch the culprits. “We call for immediate action to make sure that those behind this monstrous act are arrested and prosecuted. The legal fraternity will not be subdued by the use of force. On the contrary, these threats only deepen our determination to fight for justice and the rule of law,” she stated.
The Thika chapter members were with the entire legal community, nationwide, in Mr. Mbobu’s death, which has caused a great stir in the profession.
Lawyers have pledged that they will persist in their demands for increased security for practitioners, recognizing that threats, assaults, and intimidation of advocates result in the denial of justice.
