Police in Githunguri Sub-county have launched a full investigation after a loaded pistol was discovered abandoned behind Githiga Police Station in suspicious circumstances.
The weapon, a Jericho pistol loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition, was found by a Community Service Officer (CSO) working at the Chief’s office.
The officer, identified as Kaberu, was clearing bushes behind the station when he came across a blue plastic bag hidden in the thicket.
Upon opening the bag, Kaberu was shocked to find the firearm and immediately reported the matter at the station’s report office. The incident was recorded under OB 13/21/04/2025.
The matter was quickly escalated to the officer in charge of the armoury, the Deputy OCS, the Sub-county Police Commander, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Githunguri.
Crime Scene Investigators from Kiambu visited the area, processed the scene, and documented the evidence.
Police said the pistol showed signs of rust and exposure to mud, suggesting it had been left there for some time.
Preliminary checks revealed the firearm had been previously reported in a signal filed at Limuru Police Station on February 16, 2025, under reference number KPS/DIG/CENT/KBU/LIM/LIMTPS/S&C/2/VOL.I/52.
The weapon has been secured as an exhibit by the Sub-county Criminal Investigations Office in Githunguri and will undergo further forensic analysis by the County Criminal Investigations Office (CCIO) in Kiambu.
Authorities are working to determine how the firearm ended up behind a police facility and whether it is linked to any recent crimes in the region.
