Nairobi-based lawyer Cecil Miller has filed a lawsuit against popular X (formerly Twitter) user Nelson Amenya, accusing him of publishing a defamatory post that allegedly damaged his reputation and career.
In legal papers filed through P.W. Wena & Company Advocates, Miller says Amenya posted false and malicious claims on August 12, 2025, via his @amenya_nelson account.
The post, which reportedly was going around on all social media, linked Miller to shady deals with the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives (KUSCCO).
The post, according to Miller, labeled him corrupt and dishonest, inflating legal charges and handling bogus cases something he categorically denies. He claims the post not only damaged his professional integrity as a lawyer but also attacked his integrity.
“It was a deliberate smear,” Miller argues in his court documents. “The language used portrayed me as a thief, a dishonest professional, and someone who takes advantage of clients.”
He says Amenya never reached out for comment or verification before publishing the claims and ignored repeated requests to take the post down or issue an apology.
As a result, Miller says the damage has already been done especially among friends, clients, colleagues, and others in the legal field.
He’s now seeking a court order to compel Amenya to delete the post and stop him or anyone working with him from making similar statements in the future.
He’s also asking for compensation in the form of general and aggravated damages, plus legal costs.
Miller stresses that there hasn’t been any previous legal dispute between them and believes Amenya acted out of malice.
“The words used in that post, in their plain and natural meaning, were defamatory. They’ve caused me embarrassment and ridicule, and they’ve harmed my standing both personally and professionally,” Miller states in the suit.
The case is expected to proceed to court as both sides prepare to present their arguments.
