The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has demanded the government to close down Ishiara Level 4 Hospital in Embu County immediately blaming the hospital’s condition for the decline of healthcare services.

KUCO national officials led by Secretary General Gibore Gibore, visited the hospital where they made the call after inspecting the facility and expressing concern over what they described as a critical breakdown in service delivery.

CUCO challenged the Senate Health Committee to do thoroughly study at the Embu Level 4 hospital and identify the problem.

Gibore emphasized a great lack of medical supplies and personnel and disclosed that the hospital has only one clinical officer. He cautioned that such a situation endangers the safety of patients.

The visit follow protests by the residents demanding better health services which turned violent on Tuesday when two people were shot dead and many others injured after the police clashed with the demonstrators.

After the tragic incident, KUCO is pressing the government to respond immediately. The union is also calling for the temporary closure of the hospital to allow for the necessary renovations, recruitment of staff, and re-purposing of medical supplies that will make possible safe and trustworthy health services.
