The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers have arrested three traffic police officers who were allegedly extorting money from motorists at the Globe Cinema Roundabout.
The officers, Oscar Serem Biwott, Simon Kiplagat Nyunyutik and Edwin Benedict Mubweka attached to the Central Police Station, had reportedly collected bribes amounting to KSh 48,250 in just two hours from 6.30am.
The suspects were escorted to the EACC Integrity Center, where they recorded statements and were later booked at Kilimani Police Station.
The arrests followed numerous complaints from motorists, boda boda riders and the public regarding the conduct of the said traffic officers.
As part of the strategic initiatives to address traffic corruption, EACC has partnered with the National Police Service (NPS) to undertake a comprehensive audit of the systems and practices of work of the police to identify and seal weaknesses conducive to corruption in Kenya’s police operations.
