The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) has issued a security alert regarding the potential reentry of space debris over Kenyan airspace between Saturday, April 19, and Sunday, April 20.

In an official statement, the agency indicated that the debris is expected to travel from the North Eastern region in a north-south direction, exiting the country through the South East and into Tanzania.

The object, identified as Norad ID 61909/2024-205R, is described as a significant fragment from a rocket body. Its mass is currently unknown.

According to KSA, the re-entry is forecast to occur around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, with a margin of error of ±15 hours and 46 minutes.

This places the possible re-entry window between 7:29 a.m. on Saturday and 3:01 p.m. on Sunday.

KSA has urged the public to remain alert during this timeframe and to report any unusual sightings—such as objects falling from or streaking across the sky—to the nearest police station, government administrative office, or military facility.

This alert comes in the wake of a previous incident on December 30, when a metallic ring approximately 8 feet in diameter and weighing about 1,100 pounds landed in Mukuku village, Makueni County. No injuries were reported in that case.
