The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has made it easier for employed Kenyans to file their annual tax returns.
In a new update shared on Thursday, KRA said salaried workers can now complete the process in just three simple steps using the iTax platform.
The move is meant to reduce the stress many people go through when filing returns, especially those who used to struggle with the many sections and figures.
Under the new system, the first step is to log into the iTax account using a KRA PIN or national ID and a password.
After that, you go to the “Returns” section, choose the option for employment income, and follow the steps shown on the screen.
KRA says most of the important details, like the filing period, will already be filled in automatically. This helps reduce mistakes and saves time.
The last step is to confirm the figures shown, whether you have tax to pay or a refund, and then submit. After submitting, you can download a receipt as proof that you have filed.
KRA says the new process is as simple as “log in, click and confirm.”
This marks a complete departure from the former procedure that was issued back in February, which comprised around eight steps that users needed to complete before submission.
The new process has been rolled out just weeks ahead of the filing deadline, as KRA urges Kenyans to file their returns in time to evade any penalties.
KRA has been making efforts to ease their online processes as it encourages compliance with tax laws.
