Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today hosted a World Health Organization delegation led by Prof. Mohamed Yakur Janabi, and they held high-level discussions on how to improve the quality of health care in Kenya and the region.
It echoed President William Ruto’s orders to develop concrete, actionable measures that would enhance service delivery, protect the integrity of health programmes, and build stronger, more resilient regional health systems.
The two teams at the talks discussed the operationalization of WHO’s Regional Emergency and Logistics Hub in Nairobi as a key way to facilitate the speed and coordination of response in outbreaks and humanitarian crises, as well as ways to strengthen the National Public Health Institute through targeted support in governance, surveillance, lab systems, data management, and surge workforce strategies.
Other important subjects discussed were Kenya’s efforts to domesticate the mechanism for Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing under the Pandemic Treaty, progress made by the country in reaching WHO Maturity Level 3 for the regulation of health products, and opportunities to enhance healthcare financing through the Social Health Authority for accelerating Universal Health Coverage.
WHO AFRO showed keen interest in showcasing Kenya’s current health sector reforms during the WHO Regional World Health Summit scheduled in Nairobi in April 2026 and emphasizing African-led innovations in transforming health systems.
CS Duale reiterated the Government’s commitment to the Taifa Care Model, expanding access to quality healthcare, and strengthening the country’s and region’s readiness to respond to health emergencies.
He was joined by Principal Secretaries Dr. Ouma Oluga and Ms. Mary Muthoni, Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth, and WHO Country Director Dr. Adielle Onyenze.
