KNEC ONLINE TRAINING PORTAL GUIDELINE

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has rolled out a free online training programme aimed at strengthening teachers’ understanding of Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) ahead of the implementation of Senior School under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

In a public notice, KNEC said the training is being offered through its Educational Assessment Resource Centre (EARC) and is open to all Senior School teachers across the country. The programme is self-paced, allowing teachers to learn at their own convenience.

According to the council, the training seeks to enhance teachers’ capacity in designing, administering and evaluating competency-based assessments, which form a critical component of the CBC framework.

The move comes as the education sector prepares for the transition of learners into Senior School, a stage that places greater emphasis on skills, values and practical competencies rather than rote memorisation.

KNEC noted that the training will be conducted entirely online through its Competency-Based Assessment Learning Management System (CBA-LMS), accessible via the official portal https://cbalms.knec.ac.ke/. Teachers are required to register on the platform to access the learning materials.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, saying it will help address gaps in assessment practices and improve teachers’ readiness for Senior School implementation.

They argue that effective assessment is central to the success of the CBC, as it guides learning progress and supports learner-centred instruction.

The council has urged teachers to rely only on official KNEC platforms for information and training, warning against fraudulent online accounts that to offer assessment-related services.

KNEC emphasised that all its training programmes are communicated through verified channels and do not involve any form of examination manipulation.

The latest training initiative forms part of KNEC’s broader mandate to support quality assessment and evaluation in the education sector.
