Laikipia East MP and The Service Party (TSP) leader Mwangi Kiunjuri has issued a stinging rebuke to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of sowing discord in the Mt Kenya region through divisive and reckless politics.
This follows Gachagua’s remarks during a town hall meeting in the United States, where he allegedly branded Kiunjuri and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah as “enemies of the community,” urging voters to punish them at the 2027 ballot for allegedly betraying regional interests.
“They have abandoned the people. They must be held accountable and should not be forgiven come the next election,” Gachagua said.
In a press briefing held in Nanyuki on Monday, Kiunjuri condemned the comments, describing them as inflammatory and dangerous.
“I take great exception to these defamatory and inciteful remarks. This is not leadership; it’s intimidation disguised as politics. We must reject the culture of silencing those who offer alternative views,” said Kiunjuri.
He accused Gachagua of engaging in vendetta-driven politics, adding that the former Deputy President has failed to present any meaningful solutions for the region.
“Gachagua has become a man on a revenge mission. He is not offering any solutions—only attacks meant to cover his own failures,” Kiunjuri added, while urging the Mt Kenya electorate to rise above toxic politics.
Ichung’wah, who was also on the receiving end of Gachagua’s attack, hit back by accusing the former DP of running a hate-fueled campaign to mask his political troubles.
“His bitterness and obsession with President Ruto and me have now become toxic. He is drowning in deceit and is desperate to drag everyone else down with him,” Ichung’wah said.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also weighed in over the weekend, warning the Mt Kenya region against embracing divisive politics.
“We must not be misled by those seeking to divide us for personal gain,” said Kindiki, in what appeared to be a veiled jab at Gachagua.
