Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Saturday voted in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections at Irunduni Primary School in Tharaka Nithi County, as the ruling party conducted polling centre-level elections across 20 counties nationwide.

The exercise saw UDA members elect 20 party officials at each polling centre in counties including Kakamega, Vihiga, Trans Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Baringo, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Samburu, Laikipia, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Murang’a and Kiambu.

Speaking after casting his vote, the Deputy President welcomed the smooth conduct of the polls, saying the exercise demonstrated the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

“I am gratified to see internal party democracy at work at the grassroots,” Kindiki said.

He noted that the polling centre elections mark the first phase of UDA’s wider internal electoral process, which will continue over the next three months. According to the Deputy President, the party will subsequently conduct elections for ward, constituency and county officials, culminating in the election of national party officials in April 2026.

Kindiki said the ongoing grassroots exercise affirms Kenya’s democratic credentials and positions UDA as a model for democratic party organisation.

“The exercise places the UDA party as first among equals and a pace-setter on how to run a party through officials who have been chosen democratically by the party membership,” he said.

The UDA grassroots elections are expected to strengthen the party’s structures ahead of future political engagements and national electoral processes.
