President William Ruto’s allies have seemingly changed their stance against former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
After clinching power in 2022, Ruto’s allies, especially then his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, accused Uhuru of maladministration and messing up Kenya’s economy, that Ruto would have an uphill task to restore it.
Gachagua repeatedly said Uhuru had left empty coffers and President Ruto would have to work extra hard to raise money for development.
However, this stand against Uhuru has seemingly changed.
Speaking on Sunday, April 13 at Karuri High School in Kiambaa, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki defended Uhuru saying the poor state of the economy in 2022 was largely caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath.
"We blamed Uhuru for the economic state we found, but the primary cause was the COVID-19 pandemic, which shut down the economy for nearly two years. No businesses were operating; people were not working. Such a shutdown inevitably leads to the situation we encountered in 2022," said Kindiki.
