Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, though indirectly, has called out his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua for linking President William Ruto in the alleged push to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome from office.
Speaking on Sunday, Gachagua launched a scathing attack against President Ruto, accusing him of being behind the push to oust Koome, in a wider plan to destabilise the Mt. Kenya region.
Consequently, Gachagua declared that should CJ Koome be dismissed from office, then President Ruto should never set foot in Meru county.
“Rais amepanga kufukuzza Justice Martha Koome. Amepanga pale kortini na amehonga watu! Ukifukuza Martha Koome, usijaribu kukanyanga hapa Meru tena!” warned Gachagua.
However, in a rejoinder, Kindiki schooled Gachagua that the removal of a judge from office is purely a constitutional matter, not a political or ethnic issue.
The DP rebuked Gachagua for trivialising such a weighty legal matter by bringing in ethnicity into the equation.
"Removal of a judge from office is purely a constitutional matter and not a political or ethnic issue. Accusers and defenders of judges must use constitutional and legal arguments to state their positions rather than trivializing such a weighty legal matter by bringing in ethnicity into the equation. Who defends the judges who may be innocent but do not have ethnic godfathers?" said Kindiki.
