Kindiki is Not a Political Kingpin,’ Kiunjuri Addresses Role of CS in Nyahururu Declaration

Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri recently addressed the ongoing discussions regarding the Nyahururu Declaration and the roles of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki in Mount Kenya’s political and development strategy.

In an interview with Inooro TV, Kiunjuri sought to dispel misconceptions, emphasizing that the 16-point Nyahururu Declaration was primarily focused on regional development and growth, not individual political maneuvering.

He expressed concern that the declaration’s broader development goals were overshadowed by an undue focus on Kindiki.

“The Nyahururu Declaration was never about undermining Gachagua. It was meant to address regional issues and drive development,” Kiunjuri clarified.

He further explained that the declaration was issue-driven, not politically motivated, and refuted claims that it was funded by external forces.

“We paid our own bills. We had met previously in Machakos and Kiambu, so the Nyahururu meeting was part of a broader effort to unite regional leadership around development,” he said.

Recognizing Gachagua’s political role, Kiunjuri emphasized that the regional caucus was development-focused, not aimed at sidelining anyone.

“We’ve left the Deputy President to focus on unity politics, while CS Kindiki coordinates development in the Mountain region,” Kiunjuri noted.

He clarified that Kindiki’s role is not political but technical, serving as a link between the people of Mount Kenya and the President.

“Kindiki is not a kingpin; he’s a facilitator. This caucus aims to ensure all leaders can lobby for their constituencies without favoritism,” Kiunjuri explained.
