Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has urged leaders to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and other technological innovations to boost service delivery and rehabilitation in correctional centres.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, during the official opening of the Fourth Correctional Services Week in Nairobi, Kindiki said technology would play an increasingly important role in modernising correctional services.
He noted that AI and data analytics would enable the country to make its operational planning more efficient, detect, and bridge gaps in service delivery, bolster its rehabilitation programs, and optimise the use of the resource-constrained systems.
Kindiki emphasised that the use of technology must be undertaken while upholds dignity of the individual, ensuring that people’s personal information is protected and that the rights of people under correctional supervision are met.
Beyond digital transformation, the Deputy President highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability in prisons.
The protocols should help to simplify operations and at the same time help to achieve sustainability and preservation of the environment in the prisons.
The Fourth Correctional Services Week is a platform to highlight sector developments in the areas of rehabilitation, service delivery, and institutional reforms.
Kindiki joined the formal launch in Nairobi City County on a theme of “Innovative and Smart Correctional Services for Sustainable Development
