The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a statement clarifying the controversial death of X influencer Albert Omondi Ojwang.
Ojwang died in police custody, sparking outrage over the cause of his death, with Kenyans online demanding justice.
In a statement, NPS confirmed that Ojwang had lawfully been arrested by DCI detectives for false publication and placed in custody at the Central Police Station in Nairobi.
While in custody, the officers said the suspect sustained head injuries after hitting his head against the cell wall.
Police officers on duty promptly noticed the injuries and rushed him to Mbagathi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
"In line with statutory requirements, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into the incident. NPS reaffirms its commitment to upholding constitutional standards of human rights and fundamental freedoms," said NPS.
