Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has downplayed concerns over the reported withdrawal of security personnel assigned to former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, terming the move as part of routine government procedures.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Murkomen clarified that the scaling down of security for former state officials is a normal administrative action that affects all who vacate public office.

“We scale down security assigned to officers once they vacate office. It’s normal, and it applies to everyone—even me, if I leave office,” said Murkomen.

The CS dismissed speculation that the changes were politically motivated, instead urging Muturi to raise any formal complaints with the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja.

“That is a simple and small matter that should be handled by the IG. If it’s escalated to me, I will address it as per the law,” he added.

His statement follows public concern by Muturi, who earlier claimed that his security had been withdrawn without proper explanation—despite constitutional provisions safeguarding the rights of former high-ranking officials.

Murkomen reiterated that police officers act within the bounds of the law and are not swayed by political dynamics.

“Security officers operate within the law and are not influenced by politics,” said the CS.
