Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has affirmed that the new health insurance scheme, Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), is effective, asking Kenyans to ignore the naysayers.
Speaking during the launch of digital healthcare devices, Waiguru implored Kenyans to register in the scheme in large numbers to benefit from the wide range of healthcare services it covers.
She asked Kenyans to ignore politicians trying to block SHIF’s rollout, saying most of them have their own private health insurance.
"Some people are going on the media saying Taifa Care is not working. Do not listen to politicians; they have their own health insurance, yet they are telling you not to register," said Waiguru.
The governor said since its rollout, Taifa Care has been making healthcare more accessible and affordable.
"With this system, I can monitor what is happening in hospitals from my computer. I can see how many patients visit each facility, understand the demand, and ensure we have enough supplies," she added.
