Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse is tabling an impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, alleging that over the past two years, the DP has awarded tenders to 22 companies linked to him for personal gain.
Mutuse is stressing that his focus is not on when these companies were registered but rather on their activities in the last two years. As the mover of the motion to impeach Gachagua for gross constitutional violations.
” I have listed a total of 22 companies that I believe the DP has been using to award himself through conflict of interest. I am not interested in the time the company were registered, I am interested in what the companies have done in the last 2 years,” he said.
He argues that these companies are tied to Gachagua’s interests and have been awarded contracts in a manner that raises ethical concerns about transparency and accountability in government dealings.
These accusations surface amidst ongoing discussions about Gachagua’s conduct in office, which have included prior claims of divisive language and constitutional breaches.
The Deputy President is expected to respond to the allegations this afternoon, after which MPs will vote on the motion as stipulated by the Constitution.
