The 21st edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon saw winners take home a total of KES 12.5 million in cash prizes at an award ceremony held at Standard Chartered’s Nairobi Headquarters.
Kurgat Kimeli and Gladys Chemutai emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s 42KM races, earning KES 2 million each.Kimeli clocked 2:13:05, while Chemutai finished in 2:31:52.
The event, which attracted over 25,000 participants from 90+ nationalities, also raised KES 43 million for Standard Chartered’s Futuremakers initiative, which supports youth, women, and persons with disabilities through education, employment, and entrepreneurship programs.

Growing Participation and Competitive EdgeAccording to Joyce Kibe, Head of Corporate Affairs at Standard Chartered, the marathon saw a record 206 elite athletes, up from 73 in 2023, reinforcing its reputation as a global competitive platform.
The event also recorded increased participation from persons with disabilities, rising from 119 in 2023 to 153 this year.
The 10KM race had the largest turnout, with 10,331 runners compared to 9,405 last year.
The top five nationalities represented were Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, China, and India.
Commitment to Integrity and sustainability Penina Wahome, CEO of the Anti-Doping Agency Kenya (ADAK), reaffirmed the commitment to strict anti-doping regulations, ensuring a clean and fair race.
Athletics Kenya President Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei highlighted the marathon’s role in promoting environmental sustainability and social equity, aligning with World Athletics’ sustainability agenda.
The event, which received the World Athletics Road Race Label last year, enables runners to compete globally.
The 22nd Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, 2025.
