The County Government of Kiambu has today strengthened its disaster management capabilities by signing a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kenya Red Cross Society.
The agreement, which was signed between Kiambu County Governor Kimani Wamatangi and Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Idris, aims to enhance disaster preparedness, response, and management in the county.
The MoU outlines a comprehensive framework for cooperation, focusing on proactive disaster management strategies, contingency planning, and effective resource mobilization.
This partnership seeks to ensure that the county is better equipped to handle future emergencies and disasters while delivering high-quality response services to those in need.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Kimani Wamatangi expressed his commitment to the agreement, emphasizing the importance of collaborating with the Kenya Red Cross Society to safeguard lives and property in the face of disasters.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our efforts to improve disaster preparedness in Kiambu. This partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society will not only enhance our capacity to respond to emergencies but also ensure that our communities are better prepared to handle disasters when they strike,” Governor Wamatangi said.
He also took the opportunity to share his enthusiasm about taking up the role of Kiambu County Red Cross Patron.
“I am excited to take on the role of Kiambu County Red Cross Patron, and I pledge to provide strategic leadership that will enhance the scope of our activities and make us more effective in responding to crises,” he added.
The ceremony was attended by several key dignitaries, including Kenya Red Cross Society Governor and Chair Hon. Geoffrey Kipngetich, Kiambu Deputy Governor Julianne Kamau, County Attorney Waithera Waiyaki, and Chief Officer of Intergovernmental Relations Wairimu Wanjaiya.
