Kerio Valley Farmers Grow High Value Beans to Combat Malnutrition

Elgeyo Marakwet county government in collaboration with Emergency Locust Response Program (ELRP) distributed 4.5 tonnes of high value iron and zinc rich beans (nyota) to farmers across Kerio Valley to fight malnutrition.

The program funded through the ELRP benefit farmers in Soy North, Endo, Sambirir and Arror Electoral wards.

Edwin Seroney, the CECM for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Irrigation led the distribution exercise.

 The 2-3months climate resilient and early maturity crop according to Seroney retail between Sh150 to Sh200 per kilogramme in the market.

The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization KALRO has supported school feeding program in Eight schools in Sambirir Ward with each school receiving 10kilogrammees of the bean seeds.
