Delegates from Kericho County have once again demanded that corporal punishment be reintroduced in schools, attributing student unrest cases to the torching of learning institutions and the destruction of property.
The call follows an episode at Litein High School whereby students went on a rampage and set fire to the property, causing massive loss.
Lawmakers hold that students who indulge in such destructive behavior should be met with the wrath of law, hence they ought to be prohibited from being transferred to other schools. “They must not be allowed to act as though they have rights without following the law. These learners should be left in the affected institutions to rebuild and at the same time take responsibility for their actions,” said one of the leaders.
The campaign is being promoted amid worries about the decline of good manners in schools nationwide. The authorities are being urged to take severe measures to control arson and violence that lead to the suspension of education and consume public resources.
