Small enterprises and emerging businesses in Kenya’s flourishing hair and hair products sector will have the opportunity to present their offerings at the forthcoming Africa Hair Market exhibition set to take place in Nairobi next month. Muli Musyoka, a trichologist, notes that Kenyans annually spend approximately Sh8.6 billion on hair and beauty, accounting for more than half of the Sh14.5 billion spent in the entire East African region.
As the sector continues to expand, numerous start-ups have begun to enter the market to cater to the increasing demand. The upcoming Africa Hair Market exhibition, co-organized by Africa Is A Planet and Global Exhibitions Inc., will feature unique and cost-effective shelves for exhibitors. “Our goal is to establish a dynamic market atmosphere where a diverse range of stakeholders can exchange value through the effective economic potential of a cutting-edge venue such as the Sarit Expo Centre,” stated Keith Oleng, Project Manager and Founder of Africa Is A Planet.
This initiative aims to simplify the process for hair startups to display their products while keeping expenses in check, thus facilitating business operations. According to the event’s organizers, the shelf-based exhibition adopts a sharing economy model, providing startups and SMEs in hair care, skin care, beauty, and fashion industries an economical avenue to present their products in a modern event space. “As the KNCCI Nairobi Chapter, we are dedicated to generating opportunities that foster growth for SMEs, particularly in sectors that hold significant potential for job creation and innovation.
The Africa Hair Market serves as an accessible platform for small enterprises to connect, network, and develop sustainably,” remarked Christine Mwende, Chief Executive of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce (KNCCI) Nairobi Chapter. The shelves are designed to enable Kenya’s most promising start-ups to display their work for Kh2,300 while maintaining affordability, which, according to the organizers, positively impacts the country’s ease of doing business rating.
