Kenyan artist and content creator Remcy Don aka Jason Derulo was left shaken after his popular TikTok account, with over 220,000 people, was hacked. In an emotional post made on social media, Remcy explained that he was abruptly logged out of his account, basically losing ownership of the platform where he had built a massive following and millions of views.

“Sad day it is…!! My TikTok account 220K+ followers imehackiwa,” Remcy told his supporters. Outraged, he went on to say, “Badala ya watu ku vuna bank accounts wanakuja ku vuna TikTok, kweli priorities zime change,” highlighting the irony that hackers are now targeting social media platforms instead of more traditional financial resources.

The creator has already come up with a new TikTok account using the handle @remcy_the_don and is requesting his followers to support him as he rebuilds his online status.

“Follow my new account www.tiktok.com/@remcy_the_don”
white TikTok. First 1000 followers niko na ka token kiasi. ALUTA CONTINUA…!!!” he declared, suggesting an early bird reward and his commitment to carry on creating.

There has been a growing trend of cyberattacks on social media influencers and online content creators whose platforms now qualify as valuable assets in the new digital world. Remcy’s incident reminds us the importance of digital security, especially for public personalities and online entrepreneurs who rely heavily on these platforms for outreach and income.
