Renowned Kenyan comedian Henry Desagu, celebrated for his witty takes on the challenges faced by the boychild, is currently receiving medical attention after being diagnosed with severe depression. The news was confirmed by Gatundu MP Elijah Njoroge, who shared that Desagu’s health had sharply declined, leading to his hospitalization at Mathari Hospital, a specialized facility for mental health care.

Concerns about Desagu’s well-being had been mounting in recent weeks as he exhibited troubling behavior, such as speaking to himself, which alarmed friends, family, and colleagues. Despite his struggles, Desagu continued to engage with his fans online, posting on social media up until January 31, 2025.

The popular comedian, who was scheduled to perform at a Valentine’s Day event on February 14, is now focused on his recovery. In light of his current condition, MP Njoroge has called on Kenyans to rally behind Desagu and support his journey back to health. A fundraising campaign has been initiated, with a target of Ksh1 million to help cover his medical treatment and rehabilitation costs.

“We cannot stand by and watch Henry Desagu, who has brought so much laughter and joy to many, battle depression and alcoholism alone,” Njoroge remarked. “We will pray for his recovery, ensure he gets the best care possible, and do everything in our power to help him regain his strength and spirit.”

In a show of solidarity, Njoroge personally kicked off the fundraising effort with a generous Ksh100,000 donation and urged others to contribute to the cause. The campaign has already garnered support from well-wishers eager to see Desagu recover and return to the stage, where his humor has brightened the lives of many across the country.

As Desagu embarks on his path to healing, his fans and fellow comedians are coming together to ensure that he receives the support and care needed to overcome this difficult chapter. His journey serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the collective responsibility to support those in need.
