Kenya emerged overall champions of the 22nd Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, which concluded on Friday in Kakamega County.
Team Kenya secured a total of 63 medals — 21 gold, 24 silver, and 18 bronze — to retain their regional dominance. Uganda followed with 48 medals (16 gold), while Tanzania placed third with nine.
Rwanda claimed five medals, Burundi two, and Ivory Coast went home empty-handed.
In the secondary school category, Kenya topped with 42 medals, edging Uganda’s 39. Kenya also led in the primary school (13 medals) and Special Needs Education (SNE) categories (8 medals), while Uganda and Tanzania trailed.
Notable Winners:
- Boys’ Soccer: Bukedea Comprehensive (Uganda) beat Musingu High (Kenya) 2–1; Businge Amis Yabili named MVP.
- Girls’ Soccer: St. Noa (Uganda) defended their title; Agnes Mbukenye named MVP.
- Boys’ Volleyball: Cheptil (Kenya) edged Namugongo (Uganda) 3–2; Opoya William named MVP.
- Girls’ Volleyball: Kwanthanze (Kenya) retained the title; Mercile Wabweile named MVP.
- Basketball 5×5: ITS Kigali (Rwanda) won boys; Ashimwe Fabrice MVP. St. Noa (Uganda) won girls; Maxine Onyango MVP.
- Basketball 3×3: APE Rugunga (Rwanda) won boys; David T MVP. Ngiya Girls (Kenya) won girls; Cecilia Atieno MVP.
- Handball: Kimilili Boys and Moi Girls Kamusinga (Kenya) took top honors.
- Scrabble: Ntare (Uganda) and Kahuhia Girls (Kenya) won boys’ and girls’ titles respectively.
- Rugby 7s: St. Peter’s Mumias Boys (Kenya) and Jinja SS (Uganda) took gold.
- Rugby 15s: Kisii High (Kenya) were crowned champions.
- Hockey: Kakungulu (Uganda) won boys’; St. Joseph Girls Kitale (Kenya) won girls’.
Kenya and Uganda dominated across other disciplines including athletics, swimming, table tennis, and netball.
The 2025 FEASSA Games celebrated youth talent and unity across the region. Tanzania is set to host the 23rd edition in 2026.
