Kenya is seeking to deepen financing cooperation with China to support infrastructure and other priority development projects, as the government looks to mobilise additional resources for economic growth.
National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr Chris Kiptoo held discussions with Wang Peng, Executive Vice President of the China Development Bank (CDB), at the bank’s headquarters in Beijing.
The talks focused on strengthening financing cooperation and reviewing ongoing projects in Kenya supported by the Chinese lender.

The two sides also explored opportunities to mobilise additional financing for priority infrastructure projects, with a focus on expanding connectivity and supporting economic growth.
Beyond infrastructure, Kenya and the China Development Bank discussed broadening cooperation to other sectors, including small and medium-sized enterprises, digital transformation, manufacturing and tourism.
The discussions come as Kenya seeks to expand financing partnerships to support development priorities while widening investment opportunities across different sectors of the economy.
The meeting was attended by Kenya’s Ambassador to China Willy Bett, Principal Secretary for Roads Eng. Joseph Mbugua and Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation Julius Korir.
The engagement is expected to help strengthen Kenya-China economic cooperation and identify additional areas where development financing can support the country’s growth agenda,”statement read.
