The future of the Kenya-led security mission in Haiti remains in doubt as President William Ruto urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to provide clear direction on the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission.
Ruto warned that Kenya would not withdraw from Haiti but insisted that Nairobi needs firm assurances before making further commitments. His remarks come as the mission’s mandate approaches expiry, with growing speculation over possible shifts in U.S. policy following leadership changes in Washington.
Kenya, which deployed police officers to spearhead the MSS Mission, has played a central role in stabilising Haiti after years of gang violence and political turmoil. However, uncertainty at the UN level has raised fears that fragile security gains could quickly unravel, pushing the Caribbean nation back into chaos.
“The mission cannot be left in limbo,” Ruto told the UNSC, calling for renewed international commitment to Haiti’s stability.
