The Ministry of Health has confirmed five new Mpox cases this week, bringing the total number of infections to 28 across 12 counties.

Nakuru and Mombasa reported the latest cases, with three and two infections, respectively.

Of the 28 confirmed cases, 17 individuals have fully recovered, eight are under medical management, and two are in self-isolation. Sadly, one death has been recorded since the outbreak began in July 2024.

The Ministry has identified 204 contacts, with 147 completing the required 21-day follow-up, while 50 remain under active monitoring.

Counties most affected by the outbreak include Nakuru (9 cases) and Mombasa (6 cases), while others such as Nairobi, Kajiado, and Bungoma each report two cases.

The Ministry has tested 322 samples, with 28 confirmed positive and two results pending.

In response, the Ministry continues to work closely with county governments and stakeholders to raise awareness and enforce preventive measures to halt the spread.

Key guidelines include:

Avoiding close contact with infected individuals or their belongings.

Limiting sexual partners to reduce exposure.

Maintaining good hygiene through regular handwashing or using sanitizers.

Reporting symptoms promptly to health facilities.Ensuring infected individuals isolate until fully recovered.

Screening efforts at points of entry remain robust, with over 2.2 million travelers screened to date.

The Ministry emphasizes vigilance and cooperation from the public as it ramps up surveillance and containment measures.

“We commend Kenyans for their cooperation so far and urge everyone to continue adhering to the health guidelines to protect our communities and stop the spread of Mpox,” the Ministry stated.
