Kenya has joined world leaders in calling for stronger international cooperation to address global economic challenges, including rising debt burdens facing developing countries, during the G7 Summit held in Évian-les-Bains, France.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi said President William Ruto participated in high-level discussions alongside leaders from invited partner countries, including President Lee Jae-myung of the Republic of Korea.

Mudavadi noted that leaders at the summit reaffirmed their commitment to promoting development, investment and sustainable economic growth as pillars of shared global prosperity.

“Kenya is not merely participating in global forums but is increasingly contributing to decisions and solutions that affect economies, societies and future generations,” Mudavadi stated.

Among the key issues discussed were reforms to the global debt architecture aimed at improving transparency, strengthening debt sustainability and expanding access to affordable financing for developing economies.

The summit also focused on critical global concerns including healthcare, early cancer detection and treatment, child protection in the digital age, climate action, the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and efforts to combat transnational drug trafficking.

According to Mudavadi, Kenya supported a number of forward-looking commitments designed to address these challenges while advancing inclusive and sustainable development.

He said Kenya’s participation at the summit reflects the country’s growing diplomatic influence and increasing role in shaping global conversations on economic and social issues.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary added that such engagements are important in attracting investment, strengthening economic partnerships and ensuring Kenya’s interests are represented in international decision-making processes.
