Kenya and Mauritius Forge Alliance for AU Reforms-Says Ruto

President William Ruto on Tuesday announced a new collaboration between Kenya and Mauritius aimed at advocating for essential reforms within the African Union (AU).

The initiative seeks to ensure the AU is fit for purpose and capable of addressing the continent’s evolving challenges.

President Ruto made the announcement on his social media pages.

Ruto’s announcement followed productive discussions with the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.

The leaders focused on the need for comprehensive reforms within the AU and emphasized Kenya’s bid for the AU Commission Chair.

“Kenya and Mauritius will collaborate to advocate for reforms within the African Union to ensure it is fit for purpose. Had productive discussions with the Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth on AU reforms and Kenya’s bid for the AU Commission Chair,” Ruto stated.

In addition to the meeting with Prime Minister Jugnauth, President Ruto held a telephone call with President Salva Kiir of South Sudan. The conversation centered on the progress of peace in South Sudan through the Tumaini Initiative, a peace-building effort led by Kenya.

“Also had a telephone call with President Salva Kiir on the progress of peace in South Sudan via the Tumaini Initiative. We settled on the need to get all groups involved and agree on the implementation of the peace protocols that have been proposed,” he added.

President Ruto also held a meeting with US Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Zeya at State House Nairobi.

“Kenya and the United States have long historical ties which have expanded into our common democratic tradition, peace and security in Eastern Africa, the fight against terrorism and people-to-people relations. “he stated.
