Kenya is stepping up efforts to accelerate its digital transformation through investments in digital infrastructure, government services, skills development and technology-enabled education under the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP).
Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy John Tanui said the government is focused on ensuring that digital investments translate into tangible opportunities for citizens, businesses and government.
Tanui co-chaired a meeting with a World Bank delegation alongside Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Steve Isaboke to review progress in implementing KDEAP.
Discussions focused on the project’s three pillars: Digital Infrastructure and Access, Digital Government and Services, and Digital Skills and Markets.
Tanui said investments are supporting fibre deployment, expansion of public Wi-Fi, digital government services, digital skills development and the integration of technology into education.
The Digital Smartboards Programme has reached 10,384 public Junior Schools across all 47 counties and supported the training of 62,364 teachers. The initiative is being implemented by the ICT Authority in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Tanui said the interventions are laying foundations for digital inclusion, innovation and artificial intelligence readiness while improving public services and expanding participation in future jobs and markets.
The meeting included World Bank officials and ICT Authority CEO Jessy Maruti.
