The Kenya National Highways Authority has issued a seven-day notice directing all roadside traders operating along the Thika Superhighway to clear structures and wares encroaching on the road reserve.

In a public announcement dated February 23, 2026, the Authority said the directive targets activities around the Kihunguro, Allsops, and Delview sections on both bounds of the highway.

According KENHA Director General Luka Kimeli, the clearance is necessary to pave the way for the construction of designated roadside stations. The planned facilities are expected to improve corridor efficiency, enhance safety, and ease congestion along the busy highway.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify ALL roadside traders operating along the Thika Superhighway at Kihunguro (both bounds), Allsops (both bounds), and Delview Sections to remove and clear their wares from the road reserve within seven (7) days from the date of this notice," said Kimeli.

KeNHA stated that the initiative forms part of its broader road-safety improvement programme aimed at reducing accidents, restoring order within road reserves, and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic.

Traders who fail to comply within the stipulated period risk enforcement action under laws governing the use and protection of road reserves, the Authority said.
