Kaplong Girls High School in Bomet County has been closed indefinitely following students’ protests against alleged sexual harassment by a male teacher.

The Saturday, July 19 demos resulted in destruction of property, including the school bus, dormitories and classroom windowpanes.

Several students also sustained injuries during the mayhem and were rushed to St. Clare Kaplong Mission Hospital for treatment.

The enraged students demanded action against the male teacher, whom they accused of engaging the learners in inappropriate conversations and advances, with some alumni students claiming that he sent them explicit messages.

"While we take the students' concerns seriously, we must also ensure thorough and impartial investigations. Appropriate actions will be taken once the truth is established," said the school Principal Claire Mitei.
