Media personality Kamene Goro has opened up about one of the darkest moments of her life, revealing who stood by her during her near-death health scare and who did not.
Speaking about the ordeal, Kamene credited DJ JR for showing up for her when she was at her lowest, even as she admitted that her husband, DJ Bonez, was largely absent during the critical period.
According to Kamene, the experience exposed the realities of relationships during crisis, noting that while some people stepped up, others struggled to cope with the situation.
“JR was there for me when I really needed someone. It was a very difficult time,” she said, adding that for Bonez, “it was hard for him.”
Her revelations come against the backdrop of a life-threatening illness that saw her admitted to both the Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit earlier this year.
Kamene has previously disclosed that she nearly lost her life in January 2026 after developing severe infections, including sepsis and peritonitis, which required emergency surgery.
Doctors removed about five litres of pus from her abdomen in a desperate attempt to save her, as her condition deteriorated rapidly.
The situation was further complicated by kidney failure that required dialysis, as well as pneumonia that led to a collapsed lung, placing her in a critical state for days.
At one point, Kamene said she was given only hours to live, underscoring the severity of her condition.
In one of her most chilling recollections, she revealed that she was the only patient among those admitted in ICU and HDU at the time who survived.
“Everyone I was in ICU with, I was the only one who came out alive,” she said.
The media personality spent over a month in hospital before eventually recovering, describing the journey as physically and emotionally draining.
Her latest remarks have sparked debate online, with many weighing in on her comments about support systems during illness, particularly her candid admission about her husband’s absence.
Despite the controversy, Kamene has maintained that the experience reshaped her outlook on life, relationships and resilience, as she continues to share her recovery journey publicly.
