Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned the terrorism charges leveled against Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, Inooro TV journalist James Mbochi, and boda boda rider Stanley Mbuthi, describing them as “outrageous” and a blatant attempt to silence dissent.
Speaking outside the Kahawa Law Courts on Thursday, where the three appeared before the Anti-Terrorism Court, Kalonzo accused the state of using the judicial process to intimidate and harass innocent Kenyans who are exercising their constitutional freedoms.
“We were back at the Kahawa Law Courts today to stand with MP Gitonga Mukunji, journalist James Mbochi, and Stanley Mbuthi,” Kalonzo said. “These are outrageous terrorism charges meant not to deliver justice, but to instill fear in citizens demanding accountability.”
The trio was arrested earlier this week in connection with nationwide protests led largely by Gen Z and civil society groups, calling for transparency in government and reforms in public spending.
Their arrest has sparked widespread criticism from human rights organizations and opposition leaders.
Kalonzo insisted that the appearance before an anti-terror court was both excessive and inappropriate, warning that such measures could further erode public trust in institutions meant to uphold justice.
He vowed to continue advocating for their release and called on the judiciary to resist being used as a tool for political repression.
