Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has voiced deep concern over the mysterious disappearance of Ugandan opposition leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye, who went missing during a visit to Nairobi.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Musyoka described the incident as a “serious situation” that requires immediate attention from both Kenyan and international authorities.
“I am deeply concerned that Uganda’s opposition leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye, has gone missing while on a visit to Nairobi. This is a situation that demands urgent action from the relevant authorities and security agencies to ensure that Mr. Besigye is found and safely returned to his family,” Musyoka said.
The Wiper leader called on security agencies to take swift and credible action to locate Besigye, stressing the importance of upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of individuals, particularly those engaged in political activism.
“Increasing reports of disappearances, both of Kenyan nationals and foreigners, are a cause for great alarm. Such violations of fundamental freedoms must not be allowed to continue. Every citizen, regardless of their nationality or political affiliation, must be free from fear of arbitrary detention or disappearance,” Musyoka added.
Besigye, a longtime critic of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, is known for his outspoken opposition to the Ugandan government and its policies.
His disappearance has sparked widespread concern both in Uganda and internationally, with human rights organizations demanding immediate clarification of his whereabouts.
