Smriti Vidyarthi, an esteemed journalist and news presenter, has declared her exit from Nation Media Group, concluding an impressive 16-and-a-half-year career with the organization. In a brief announcement made on Monday, February 10, Vidyarthi expressed her gratitude to the audience and Nation Media Group for the confidence they had shown in her throughout the years.
“After sixteen and a half years of dedication to the Nation Media Group and the country, I appreciate your trust in me. For now, please join me tonight at 9 pm for my last bulletin on NTV,” Vidyarthi stated. Known for her impact on Kenyan journalism, Vidyarthi has played a vital role in delivering evening news and hosting major programs.
Her journey in journalism began after she completed her higher education in the UK. Vidyarthi obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Warwick and later achieved a Master’s Degree in International Broadcast Journalism from City University. Her journalism career kicked off at K24 as a Business News Anchor. In 2008, she transitioned to NTV, where she quickly garnered recognition for her adept anchoring of live coverage, breaking news, and thorough interviews.
Throughout her career, she has had the privilege of interviewing world leaders and notable personalities, including Raila Odinga, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, U2’s Bono, and Olympic champion Usain Bolt. Beyond her anchoring duties, Vidyarthi has made important contributions as the host of NTV Wild Talk, a show centered on wildlife conservation and environmental issues.
Vidyarthi has also thrived as a moderator and MC, facilitating events for prestigious organizations such as the International Press Institute and the Media Council of Kenya, along with various global institutions. Her exceptional contributions to journalism were acknowledged in 2013 when she received the Television & News Bulletin Award at the Media Council’s Annual Journalism Excellence Awards.
