Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the establishment of a commission of inquiry to investigate the recent surge in extrajudicial killings.

Kalonzo made the remarks after accompanying the families of the ‘Mlolongo Three’ to City Mortuary.

He condemned the abductions, stressing that it is the government’s responsibility to protect citizens from such incidents.

He echoed the sentiments of Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, who also called for an end to the abductions and a thorough investigation into the disturbing events.

“I agree with Muheshimiwa Muturi that this country needs to establish a commission of inquiry into these illegal, illegitimate, and tragic abductions that have caught the attention of the world,” Kalonzo said.

He emphasized that the commission should not be formed solely by President William Ruto but should include the opposition’s participation.

Kalonzo further warned that if the government does not act, the opposition would consider holding their own sessions to decide whether to form their own commission of inquiry.

“If they are not willing, we will proceed with our own sessions and determine whether to set up our own commission. These killings cannot simply be overlooked; the country cannot afford to pay such a heavy price,” Kalonzo added.

Pressure continues to mount on President Ruto’s administration to address the ongoing wave of abductions, particularly targeting dissenters.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and CS Muturi have separately urged the police to investigate and hold accountable those behind these acts, which have been linked to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Their statements came as the bodies of two of the three men who went missing in Mlolongo were found at City Mortuary in Nairobi.

On Thursday, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Directorate of Criminal Investigations Director Mohamed Amin appeared in court in connection with the matter, denying claims that the deceased and others still missing were in their custody.
