ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding digital infrastructure and promoting digital skills among Kenyans as part of efforts to tap into the fast-growing global digital economy.
Speaking after meeting officials from the ESports Kenya Federation, who paid him a courtesy call, Kabogo praised the federation for creatively harnessing digital platforms to unlock opportunities in the competitive gaming space.
“As we expand our digital infrastructure and enhance digital skilling, we aim to ensure Kenyans utilize the opportunities created,” said Kabogo.
He noted that Kenya’s presence in the global gaming industry, which is currently valued at 190 billion US dollars, is gradually growing.
According to the CS, Kenya’s own video gaming market is now valued at 114 million US dollars as of 2024—a figure that signals the sector’s potential to create jobs and income for the youth.
“I am impressed with how ESports Kenya is using digital skills to tap into a thriving global industry. This is a clear example of how innovation and technology can drive economic transformation,” he added.
